Spinning Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight On Vinyl

Ennio Morricone’s release,”The Hateful Eight,” by A Third Man Records, film by Quentin Tarantino. The film was shot in southwest Colorado.

The soundtrack is composed by the legendary, Ennio Morricone (the man who revolutionized western soundtrack) who earlier wrote, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Some of the soundtrack parts include John Carpenter’s, The Thing, which shares the movies theme of snowbound paranoia. Morricone was running out of time to compose and record for the films release, so they added Morricone’s, “Regan’s Theme” from 1977 film Exorcist III: The Heretic.

The Hateful Eight film used a filming process that was used in the 50’s and 60’s for a spectacular horizon-stretched wide shots. It was filmed on 65mm film from Robert Richardson, who also worked with Tarantino on Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds, and Django Unchained (which will be on my next LP music review.) Richardson originally filmed this movie on 65 mm film on two modern 65 mm cameras. The film was next transferred to 70 mm film for projection using Ultra Panavision 70 and Kodak Vision 3 films. This gave it that broad widescreen imagery that was earlier used on some of the motion films in the 50’s & 60’s. This two LP is a great soundtrack that includes two posters, a twelve page beautiful, pictured booklet and all designed within a tri-fold reversible jacket with a soft touching finish.
