Mary Shelley | Book Review | EarthScaper

This young adult biography of Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, includes illustrations with hauntingly gorgeous black and white watercolor paintings that have a charcoal appearance and complement the text written in verse.  The author, who is also the artist, Lita Judge made touchups to her watercolor paintings using digital design.  There is a plethora of information outside common knowledge on Mary Shelley’s life included in this book.  The artwork draws the reader deeper into Mary’s story and powerfully represents her life, creation, and drive through the sad circumstances she faces.  The author’s note and bibliography are worth reading as well.

Mary Shelley | Book Review | EarthScaper

Mary is dead

nearly two hundred years.

Her corpse rests within her grave,

but her spirit whispers

eternally through me,

her creature.

It is I

who keep her faith alive.
