We tried the Southside Diner in Mt. Vernon, OH. It’s like an old-fashioned diner filled with vintage trinkets of all kinds. There is a hustle and bustle about the diner with lots of cooks making delicious eats. The waitresses were nothing short of friendly like their long lost friend. Their menu has a variety of items to choose from including lots of comfort foods.

There is Mac & cheese, meatloaf, stuffed peppers, chili, and lots of different burgers, just to name a few. My favorite was the cream chipped beef and a side of coleslaw. Remember that dish? My mom would make this and put it over toast. Well, Southside took it a bit further by putting it over mashed potatoes and a biscuit. I personally thought it was delicious! This could be because it took me back to my childhood. Kevin had the stuffed pepper. He stated it was, “Just ok.” I agree, it wasn’t fabulous or over the top, but it’s the atmosphere. It’s warm, cozy, and the staff is friendly.

Southside sells lots of goodies to go. They have whole pies of different flavors, cookies, and cakes to name a few things. Kevin bought me a personal size cherry pie (homemade) and it was awesome. There is also a wall full of different candy to choose from. The candy is not home made it’s all commercial, but nothing short of a candy store itself. I will definitely be a patron!
